Four hundred and twenty (420) students admitted for the 2026 academic year were formally matriculated as junior members of the College on Friday, 27th February 2027.
In his address, the Acting Principal, Dr. Christopher Dewodo, admonished the newly admitted students to uphold the highest standards of discipline and academic excellence throughout their stay in the College. Speaking on the theme “Discipline, Academic Excellence, and Professional Responsibility: The Hallmarks of Effective Teacher Education,” the Acting Principal elaborated on the significance of the three core values that must guide the students’ academic and personal lives.
He explained that discipline is the foundation of academic success and personal development. According to him, without self-control, respect for authority, and adherence to institutional rules and regulations, meaningful learning cannot take place.
On academic excellence, Dr. Dewodo emphasized the need for commitment, consistency, and critical thinking. He encouraged students to take their lectures seriously, engage in research, participate actively in academic discussions, and strive to give off their best at all times.
Touching on professional responsibility, he reminded the students of their future roles as teachers and role models in society. He noted that society expects teachers to demonstrate high ethical standards, punctuality, good grooming, and moral uprightness. He further stressed that the habits and values cultivated during their training will shape the kind of educators they will become in the future.
Dr. Dewodo indicated that these three pillars—discipline, academic excellence, and professional responsibility—will together shape the students into competent, confident, and committed teachers capable of contributing meaningfully to national development.
The Acting Principal further urged the matriculating students to live in accordance with the vision of the College, which is to be a reputable College of Education producing world-class science and mathematics teachers. In this regard, he encouraged them to:
- Attend lectures regularly and punctually;
- Respect College authorities, staff, and fellow students;
- Avoid all forms of examination malpractice and misconduct;
- Uphold the good name and values of the College; and
- Participate actively in academic, spiritual, and co-curricular activities.
He assured the students of quality tuition from the College’s highly qualified and dedicated lecturers.
Dr. Dewodo also commended the devoted staff—both teaching and non-teaching—for their commitment to duty, professionalism, sacrifice, and dedication toward sustaining the academic excellence and moral standards of the institution.
He further assured students of ongoing management initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure, noting that efforts are being made to lobby government and alumni for additional support and development within the College
